BURNED by Ellen Hopkins is a story of a young girl by the name of Pattyn who engages the reader into her daily struggles. She lives in a small Mormon community and is often controled by her parents and bishop's rules. Doing so Pattyn involves herself into a group of teenagers who are not Mormons and becomes part of wrongful actions. Most of her Mormon community including her parents viewed her as rebellious. She was sent off to live with an aunt where she met the love of her life and was forced to come back home to take care of her sisters. Pattyn lived with the abuse of her father until one day she decided to run away and start the family with Ethan, her boyfriend and the baby she was expecting. Doing so, led to a car accident where she lost both the baby and boyfriend. Pattyn makes the reader part of her daily struggles and sacrifices. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone.
